Bloomfield Ltd of Bidford-on-Avon has just installed a new CCM Premier guillotine from TCS (Terry Cooper Services). The new machine has a 115cm width and is one of the latest "Premier Plus" models. It replaces an ageing Como machine, and Director Paul Lowe says the investment was a natural upgrade.

"This was a straight replacement of old for new, which has to happen periodically to keep us up to date," he says. "We have made substantial productivity gains with the new CCM Premier for a number of reasons. Firstly it has a deep clamp opening which enables us to cut bigger paper stacks, and side air tables which improve handling. Another major difference is the programming capability of the new machine, it stores and recalls jobs quickly, by name, and the control interface is excellent."

He continues: "There are lots of nice touches on the CCM Premier, such as monitored shear bolt protection and central lubrication, but the main factor in deciding to buy it was value for money. We looked at the competition but couldn't find a machine this good for the price."

Bloomfield is a general commercial printer with a diverse customer base ranging from the self employed to international corporations. It has B2/SRA2 four colour presses, CTP and comprehensive finishing facilities. According to Mr Lowe, the key to success in the modern print market is the ability to offer great service. "We do much more than print," he explains, "we offer full solutions including a range of fulfillment tasks such as mailshot management, but more than that, we like to develop personal relationships with our customers and be print advisers as well as producers. We have been pleased to find TCS has a similar customer focused approach and have been responsive to any problems or queries we have."

Bloomfield Ltd has a history dating back over 100 years, but has existed in its current form since Mr Lowe and his partner Sally went from being employees to owners by buying the company in 1991. One of their first moves was to relocate from Stratford to Bidford. Despite the current economic climate the company remains profitable and has a turnover of around £600K per year. It has 9 staff and operates a 5,000sq ft factory.
