QUICK CHANGE
TCS to the rescue with rapid CCM installation
Jones and Palmer Ltd of Birmingham has installed a new CCM Premier guillotine from TCS (Terry Cooper Services). The 78cm format machine replaces an old guillotine which broke down after over 30 years of use, and according to Operations Director Stephen O'Brien there was not a moment to lose.
"We're a busy company and with a guillotine down the work began to stack up very quickly," he says. "TCS handled the servicing on our old guillotine and were on the spot with the offer of a new CCM. We had a look at it and it either fulfilled or surpassed what we want from a guillotine so we agreed to buy, from that point TCS moved quickly and we had our CCM 78 installed and running within three days!"
Jones and Palmer specialises in ‘investor relations media' which involves all forms of communications between PLCs and their shareholders, both print and electronic. The company offers a complete service from concept to mailing and has a well established reputation for creative and technology skills, as well as print which it produces with two six colour presses. A significant proportion of company turnover is in this field, with the rest categorized as general commercial print. Whatever the task, quality and reliability are key, and the company are always looking at ways of efficiently delivering both.
"We have recently invested in a new PDF workflow and continue to invest heavily in technology and training, these days to be a smart company you need smart systems. The CCM guillotine fits that philosophy," says Mr O'Brien. " Of course we are comparing it to the old machine it replaced but it's great to have a modern guillotine which is highly programmable. Being able to control various aspects of the cutting program independently makes a big difference, for instance you can turn air beds off and on. We can now make changes really quickly and not have to follow set working patterns, overall it's added greater flexibility."
He concludes: "Service is important and I can't fault TCS in that respect, we have dealt with them for years and I honestly can't think of anything negative to say."
Jones and Palmer Ltd has been in existence since 1906, It currently has 45 staff and a 12,000sq ft works in Carver Street, B1.
